Two of Colorado’s largest metro counties are dismissing some marijuana possession cases after voters approved Amendment 64, which effectively legalized marijuana. Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey stated that individuals 21 and older with less than an ounce will no longer be charged and that the state intends on reviewing pending cases for possible grounds for dismissal, which currently includes approximately 70 pending cases. In Grand Junction, police documents obtained by the Daily Sentinel stated that police officers had been informed to stop issuing possession of an ounce or less marijuana tickets. Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck stated that until Amendment 64 becomes law, anyone with a current marijuana ticket will be prosecuted. The District Attorney in Arapahoe County will meet with police enforcement within the next week to discuss marijuana enforcement. Individuals in Denver and Boulder that currently have a marijuana ticket should still attend their court hearing, but expect a dismissal of the charges.
